Should politicians have a minimum qualification? An interesting discussion especially in the classroom setting where none of it actually bothers us, the students at all.

The unanimous reply was a big YES! Then came the next question, what do you consider as the appropriate qualification? Before an answer was found for that, prompt came the next question What about experience, doesn’t it count? By emphasizing on qualifications would we not once again place emphasis on a sheet of paper( the degree) rather than on the person? Immediately followed with a valid point that it isn’t difficult to forge a certificate nor is it difficult to bribe. However, the point forgotten here is that when a person gets a degree, it is shown in the way the person conducts themselves and not only in the certificate. Hence any sort of forgery could be suspected when the person conducts themselves in a manner we have grown not to accept from “educated” people. once again, the definition of education is questioned. Along with it comes the dig at experience.

After some time, we came to a conclusion that it would be right to say that what we really need in a country are well cultured people who have an idea of what is going on in the country and a desire to fix things backed with the knowledge and support required to do it. The mixture of education, experience, legacies, love for the country and a passion to change for the better could be in any proportion hopefully, the last two in higher doses.

What say?
